Self-expression through the arts means different things to different people. For those with a mental illness or substance abuse issue, artistic expression often allows people the chance to say things they otherwise cannot. For many it is a vehicle to self-healing or growth or a way to help build self-confidence or self-worth. For others the arts offer a way to convey a personal experience or to speak out about how they feel.
No matter the reason for consumer art, it is typically powerful, expressive, and profound. We invite you to examine some of the examples of consumer art by clicking the poetry and art section below. You might also want to visit the photograph album section for examples of events and activities that consumers participate in through their empowerment center communities as they begin to live their lives in recovery.
Check back often. These pages change regularly. The included artworks, poetry, and/or photographs are done by consumers. The rights to all art, writing, photography, and poetry remain with the artist.

Jed Kovach - In appreciation of you and all that you do...
The OMFA Leadership Team, Staff, and Members of the New Beginnings Recovery Center and the Open Arms Empowerment Center would like to express our gratitude to you for your outstanding support of the personal recovery and resiliency services program. You have been exemplary in your support and contributions to ensuring the success of Center consumers engaged in their personal recovery journey.
In tribute to you, we would like to use the words of John Spalding to describe your impact on all of us:
"Those who believe in our ability do more than stimulate us. They create for us an
atmosphere in which it becomes easier to succeed."
We appreciate you and all that you have contributed to our successes!
