Management Team
Jon W. Gordon, Executive Director
Jon has been with the Center since September, 1996. Prior to that, Jon served in various positions in Colorado and Texas and has over 30 years experience in the mental health and substance abuse fields. Jon is a native Coloradoan. He holds a Masters Degree in counseling. Along with his role with the Center, Jon has served in various capacities at the state and regional levels promoting and advocating for improved mental health services.
Since coming to the Center, it has grown from a budget of $2.6 million to its current budget of $7.4 million and from serving 1,230 clients to nearly 5,500 clients. Jon’s vision for the Center is that, “it continue to grow in ways that support and encourage collaboration with others in our communities.”
Tom Mraule, Deputy Director/CFO
Tom has been with the Center since February, 1981. Tom grew up on the Western Slope of Colorado and enjoys hunting and fishing. Tom started working as an accountant in a CPA firm upon college graduation and has 36 years of experience in the accounting field. He served on the Board of Directors for a bank for 13 years, 10 of these as President of the Board. Tom also served on the State of Colorado Banking Board. Tom’s major emphasis at the Center is, “to keep the organization on a fiscally sound basis.”
Clif Barnhart, MD, Medical Director
Clif received his M.A. in Physiology, from the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston; his M.D. at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston; and he did his internship, as an OB-GYN, at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. Clif did his residency in General Psychiatry at the University of Missouri Medical Center, Columbia; and his Chief Residency as a Psychiatrist at the University of Missouri Medical Center, Columbia. Clif has been with the Center for Mental Health for five years.
Patsy Boyle, MA, LPC, Deputy Director of Clinical Services
Patsy has an M.A. in Guidance and Counseling from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 13 years at the Center for Mental Health.
Robert Etenburn, MA, LPC, NCC, Director of Quality Improvement and Utilization Management
Robert Etenburn brings a variety of experiences to the position of Director of Quality Improvement and Utilization Management. Robert has been a mental health clinician for many years and has provided services to the mental health community in private practice, agency services, consultation, and he has provided supervision and guidance for upcoming therapists. Robert received his Master’s degree in Community Counseling and brings a variety of clinical experiences to his position. He has been acknowledged to be an expert in Psychology in Mesa County Courts. Robert is additionally experienced in oversight of projects and activities including mental health, law enforcement, nuclear materials, and compliance with many state and federal programs.
In his off hours, Robert enjoys outdoor activities such as river rafting, hiking, camping, and spending time with his family. His unique background allows him to approach his position with traditional and innovative techniques to accomplish the unique challenges of his position.
Ed Hagins, M.Ed, LPC, NCC, Clinical Program Director, Outpatient Programs
Ed Hagins currently serves as the clinical program director of the Center for Mental Health. In this role, he leads our team of program supervisors who oversee all aspects of our out-patient clinics, including mental health services, substance abuse services, psychiatric services, and peer services.
Ed has served many diverse populations within the mental health field in his 17-plus year career, including probation/parole clients, children in residential placement, and sex-offenders to name a few. A big believer in recovery-focused services, he is a strong advocate for consumers being their own experts and working toward a life not defined by mental illness. Ed is both a licensed professional counselor as well as a Nationally Certified Counselor. He received a bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University and a master’s degree from the University of North Texas.
Though a multi-generation Texian, Ed now proudly calls Colorado home along with his wife, Angi, and son Hunter. When not at the Center you will likely find him in the mountains, Jeeping.
Janey Sorensen, Marketing Director
Janey has been with the Center since 2007 and provides marketing and grant writing services to the organization. She grew up in Grover - population 21 - in Wayne County which is part of the rugged and remote region of central Utah. She was educated at Weber State College in Ogden, Utah. Her work history includes paralegal, marketing, communications, public relations, and grant writing.
Along with securing funding for programs and services, Janey believes that helping people better understand mental illness is one of the most important things she can do for the Center.
When she is not at the Center, Janey enjoys working on the ranch she owns with her family, growing flowers and vegetables, baking, watching the Rockies and the Broncos play, and spending time with her family.
Marge Hanna, Human Resource Director
Marge Hanna is the Human Resources Director. She is responsible for guidance and management of the overall provision of Human Resources services, policies, and programs for the Center. This involves originating and leading Human Resources practices and objectives that will provide an employee-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes quality, productivity and standards, and goal attainment; providing organization development, recruiting and staffing, employee orientation and training; compensation and benefits administration; and developing employee safety, wellness and health programs. Marge started at the Center in December of 1992.
Marge’s education background is in Marketing and Management and Education. Prior to moving to Montrose she lived in Minnesota and Southern California, working in the aerospace industry in special projects and in computer systems management. Outside interests include traveling, photography, and singing.
Carol Jean Garner, Director of Non-Clinical Services
Carol Jean provides direct oversight of all the Non-Clinical services for the Center for Mental Health, which includes peer services, empowerment centers, the suicide prevention program, and outreach and education to people and communities. Carol Jean also serves as the consumer and family advocate for the Center. Her passion is in speaking for those who have no voice both at the local and state level.
Carol Jean has been trained extensively in the fields of human service, psychology, and sociology. She is a certified suicide prevention, intervention, and post-vention trainer with all population groups. Carol Jean is trained in bereavement and grief support, in community organizing and collaboration, and in group facilitation. She sits on many local and state boards and councils. Carol Jean has served as the Ombudsman for the State of Colorado for Mental Health; she is a Western Slope NAMI member, and a national DBSA member.
Carol Jean was born and raised in the Somerset and Paonia area of the Northfork Valley in Western Colorado. In her free time, she likes to cook, bake, embroidery, hike, ride her bike, read, and take walks with her poodle "Sarge".
